 Shaker Style rocking chairThis is a reproduction Shaker Style rocking chair. This particular chair is finished with a durable black paint and the figured maple is hand rubbed with an oil varnish mixture. The seat is "shaker tape". I make these chairs with reed seats also. Many people prefer an all-wood look where the beautiful curly maple is completely visible. This chair will seat a good sized adult comfortably and is a perfect gift for new parents or grandparents. The little rail on the top of the chair is for a blanket or cushion. I make each piece of this chair myself.....this is not a "rocker-are-us" or a kit chair, but one that is carefully built with perfect craftsmanship. The hard maple is selected for appearance (figure) and turned on a lathe. The back posts and slats are bent by placing the wood in steam and clamping in a form to dry.
