 Hand turned Culibah Burl BowlThis stunning bowl looks great in the picture but is breathtaking in reality. It is large, almost twelve inches in diameter, and chunky with the wall thickness left at about three quarters of an inch. The swirls and coloration of the burl are magnificent and the smooth finish of malamine lacquer and beeswax make the piece incredibly tactile. This bowl could be made in a variety of hardwoods and because of its proportions would be equally dramatic in whichever is used. The burl used in the pictured bowl adds an extra dimension and movement to the piece. Woodturning is a very useful skill for a woodworker to have. Not only can individual pieces such as bowls, cups, vases, candlesticks, lamps etc. be crafted but turning is used to make chair legs, bed posts, finials and the like.
