Paschal Candle StandsDescription: Materials: Red Oak, White Oak, Sycamore; Oil/Polyurethane/Beeswax Finish Height:47"H (without candle) This Paschal Candle Stand was commissioned to be used during Church services on Easter and other special occasions. A year before the work came to me I had the opportunity to salvage a dying sycamore tree that had to be removed from the Church property. I used this piece as an opportunity to give back to the Church by making the carved panels from that same sycamore wood. The four hand-carved panels show the Cross, the Chi Rho symbol, and a Chalice and Host. Following this work I was commissioned by a Church in Utah to design and make a Paschal Candle Stand and Processional Cross and Stand for their new Sanctuary. I have a particular affinity for this type of work, and I enjoy doing the research and working with pastors and congregations to design the perfect religious furniture for their individual Sanctuaries. If possible I visit the Church where the piece will reside (or, if distance is prohibitive, I review photographs of the sanctuary and other nearby pieces of religious furnishings, such as the alter, lecterns, and baptismal font), and then I provide a selection of computer drawn 3-dimensional renderings of what the piece might look like so we can all visualize it in it's new environment. This begins the iterative give and take design process, resulting in a 'no bad surprises' delivery of just the right liturgical work!
