Pencil Post Bed

Pencil Post Bed

This solidly built queen size pencil post bed features shaped square cherry posts and massive oak rails. The headboard's top and bottom rails float in mortises cut into the rear posts, while the panels float in grooves cut into the headboard's rails. This construction prevents stress buildup between these parts following humidity changes. Deep mortise and tenons join the bed rails to the posts, making very strong joints at these high stress points. Yet the bed can easily be disassembled for moving by unscrewing bed bolts at each corner. The finish is a satiny shellac polish.

The custom design process is a wonderful and fulfilling collaboration between myself and my clients. I enjoy the challenge of designing and building new pieces. After discussing the project, and if possible visiting the home where the furniture will reside (or, if distance is prohibitive, reviewing photographs of the new home for the piece), I provide a selection of computer drawn 3-dimensional renderings of what the furniture might look like so we can all visualize it in it's new environment. This begins the iterative give and take design process, resulting in a 'no bad surprises' delivery of just the right piece of furniture! Let me work with you to design and build the perfect custom bed for your home or business!
