Gem In The Rough

CustomMade by Austin Aaron

Walnut bed with live edge planks. The name comes from the unique top head board. A knot creates a dark red "gem" as a centerpiece. It has a stretchy stance sitting well off the floor with a special bracing system to eliminate the box spring. All curves were done with band saw, router and handmade templates, and spokeshaven smooth. All joints are mortise and tenon with curved shoulders. Details are hand carved and handsanded. It's a very smooth finish!

The headboard is easily removed to be upholstered however is desired. This particular bed is for sale.

  • King bed stacked wood headboard - side boards to fit box spring & mattress

by Darlene Judy May 04th 2013

Spectacular craftsmanship. Austin created a beautiful high end stacked walnut king bed. We were looking for a statement piece for the master that was unique using high quality wood for a mountain home, yet refined to work with the "mountain modern" design concept. It's absolutely beautiful and Austin was a pleasure to work with. I was so pleased he is working on other projects. Photos will come later once everything is completed.

A mutual friend introduced us to Austin who immediately understood what we were after. He suggested that we go look at raw lumber together and recommended a source that he knew had recently harvested some 100 year old Walnut trees on a historic Boulder County property. Austin suggested that we join the top pieces end to end rather than in a traditional “book match” to enhance the shape and interest of the entire table. He then sketched a trestle base with beautiful curved legs in proportion to ... Read More
