This Great Blue Heron was carved life size in pine at a high level of detail. There is a small frog down by its feet next to a water lily. The dragonfly is an add-on in mahogany. Such carvings as this start out with a chainsaw, but I quickly find myself reaching for more subtle tools to get the … details I desire. The lines are somewhat oriental: A carving like this might look well in a quiet garden setting. I treat all my carvings with preservatives that, with maintenance, should give them years of exterior life.
