The Maui Black Coral and Molokai Deer Antler are hand-cut by the artist. This Hawaiian black coral is legally obtained. It was harvested at a depth of over 200 feet by the only licensed black coral diver in the state of Hawaii. Black coral is the official gemstone of Hawaii. It is rare and hard … to find. There is great danger to the deep sea diver because the depth of over 200 feet at which it is found is very difficult to safely dive. Coming to the surface requires scheduled pauses to avoid nitrogen bubbles in the divers bloodstream. The deer antler comes from the Molokai Axis Deer which is abundant on the mountain slope where I live. When hiking I find the naturally shed antlers hidden on the ground. It is a great moment of excitement when I find one. I shape and polish the cross section of the antler to make matching pairs for earrings. The beautiful green chrysoprase gemstone is in the chalcedony family of precious stones and is set in a delicate silver bezel. The earrings are a tribute to the amazing forces of nature here in Hawaii.Read more Read less
