Hope Chest

This unique design resulted from a collaboration with my granddaughter, Kendra. I built it for her as a hope chest, and finished it after her wedding! LOL
The chest is made from American Black Walnut and Hickory, and is lined with aromatic Cedar. The lid is hinged with torsion hinges that
… keep the lid at any angle, preventing it from falling
The two lift out trays have finger holes in the shape of hearts.
The round disk on the inside of the lid is their logo (one might say coat of arms, but that's too ancient). Kendra designed it and I carved it on leather. The disk is attached via a rare earth magnet.
There are two secret compartments to stash small items of value.
