I have been long fascinated with what I call a "keep," meaning a secure, protected holding place to store something special, or secret. Keep #1 was used as an urn. When the object has been placed in Keep #2, the lid can be bound in place in such a way that one does not casually open it. Opening … becomes a ritual of unbinding, as closing it requires the effort of binding. In order to see or handle what is in the box, one has to go through a process. It takes time and care. Some objects are like that—so special we want to know where they are, but not leave them available to the eye. And opening after a year, or twenty five, becomes an intriguing surprise.

"Keep #2" is 14" x 9" x 6" and was made from thick Mahogany half-rounds that were cut out in the process of making my dining table.
