I built Mary's kitchen back in about 1980. In 2008 she asked me to come back and make some adjustments—new countertops, refitting for a larger refrigerator, some changes to the breakfast bar. As part of this refit we decided to add a small island in stainless steel and wood which has become an essential pivot for every routine of the kitchen. We also added a new stool so Mary can sit at the counter for tea as the bread is rising.
