Koa Wood Stemware Cabinetscreated for a client of William Doub Custom Furniture

About this item

Price not specified

This pair of koa wood stemware cabinets were built to fit in architectural niches opposite each other in a small hall or foyer. The hall then opens into a large sunny dining room with a solid koa dining room set to match the koa cases. Koa, also known as Hawaiian mahogany, is one of the rarest woods in the world, and only exists on the islands of Hawaii. The cases - and the dining room set - were built while I had my shop in Honolulu, and had access to local wood suppliers.

The design of the cases is simple and contemporary, as the beauty of the wood is the signature element of these pieces. The curved bonnet top, and the thin curved mullions in the glass doors, match curves in skirt and the lower paneled doors. The drawers have carved ebony handles.
