This piece is hand turned on a wood lathe. I first turn the wood and inlay the elements starting with the pewter that I turn back to the surface. Next I chip inlay the stones that are hand ground to give a smooth surface. The last element is to apply the gold wire then spray with multiple coats of lacquer. The main body is big leaf maple burl form Oregon. The lid is gaboon ebony and snakewood. The inlays are pewter, turquoise, with applied twisted gold wire.
