This coffee table design is a blend of styles; art deco, arts and crafts, and a bit of Asian influence. The design process started with hand sketches and then was finalized in a 3D CAD program. A critical element in this design was finding the right balance and blending of the woods' contrast of color, tone and grain. The use of wenge and mahogany in this piece serve to add strength and crispness to the design. A couple construction details: The top is attached to the top via mortise and tenon bridal joints and the bottom base trim consists of 20 pieces with 40 individually cut joints.
