This model epitomizes the efficiency of maximum seating area in an attractive design that has a small footprint. With excellent lumbar support built into the frame, a reasonable seat depth, and a sensible pitch to the seat and back, our Michaela is preferred by those who like to sit up with good back support and feet squarely on the floor.
Five years ago, we offered for sale in our Scarborough, Maine retail store a design similar to this one. Fabrics provided by the factory were mostly bright and rather expensive 100% cotton, which is appealing until the day-to-day realities of sun, hands, heads, and gentle use result in expensive replacement or re-upholstering.
Moreover, the factory producing them was unwilling to make even simple changes (like making 2 seat cushions) for customers willing to pay a bit more. Sizes were inflexible as well. Certain aspects of frame and spring construction led to inconsistencies in the way the chair and matching sofa sat... One night, after several attempts to discuss these issues with the factory owner, I realized I had missed yet another bedtime story talking to a factory owner that just didn't get it...I resolved not to share any more hard-earned insights with folks obtuse enough to think they could predict and serve our customers needs so arbitrarily.
We decided instead to develop a stronger relationship with our favorite factory in North Carolina to produce our very own line of furniture we call Condo Sofa. Using our preferred design-and-build partners, we developed our own version, which we call Michaela.
