Murphy Beds seem to be making a serious comeback. Far more comfortable than a "roll-away" or "sleeper-sofa" yet, less space than a conventional bed and when properly designed, an attractive piece of furniture for the room.
This particular piece was designed to the client's need to have a spare bed but have it in his study/home office. It was designed to appear as a traditional Japanese futon cabinet, or Dansu, to be consistent with the oriental furnishing of the home office. Open storage compartments above for books and collectables. It is constructed of Brazilian Cherry and European Beech, with brushed chrome handles. False drawer faces become the support legs when the bed is opened.
Designed for a twin with full-sized mattress, Murphy Beds can be designed to handle full-double or queen as well. Gas struts, rather than springs and guide chains create a smoother and easier action as well as a safer bed.
