Ocean Green Table Lamp

Soothing green table lamp with eight radially symmetrical arms & legs, a textured faux-pumice stone ring base, and a custom wood in-line dimmer switch. All the wood in this lamp is reclaimed/recycled, with iridescent brown textured paint on the frame and oil finish on turned cocobolo finial and rock maple/pine/sepele switch box.The shade is made with 101 interlocking origami units of translucent parchment paper bound with multiple layers of shoji paper and tinted adhesive. 1/8" cotton chord embedded in the rim of shade for reinforcement. Additional layer of white shoji paper lining the inside of the shade (for maximal reflection of light) and forming a durable heat- and water-resistant shade. The highly textured carved stone ring base is made of a lightweight faux-pumice concrete (cement, Perlite, peat moss, sand) has heavy-duty felt pads beneath to protect table surfaces. The shade is supported from a central pier secured by a hand-turned cocobolo wood finial with a 1/4 inch threaded bolt that threads into a nut inset in the pier cap. Candelabra light sockets (UL approved, rated to 75 watts each, 60 watt bulbs shown in photos) are secured to the central pier with nylon and all electrical connections are sealed in shrink tubing. Dimmer switch rated for 0 to 300 watts, positioned 3 feet from lamp on 9 foot brown power chord.
Pictures cannot do justice to the quality of light and appearance of this unique table lamp. The irregular texture & translucence of the shade and the roughness of the stone base are pleasingly balanced by the uniformity of the radially symmetrical stand and finely polished finial. The paper shade is an interesting sculptural art form with infinite variety of color density and matte surface texture variation. When illuminated, the appearance changes dramatically as light penetrates layers of color when adjusting dimmer switch. The structure of the folded, woven and layered paper lantern is remarkably strong because of the intrinsic geodesic skeleton and multiple layers of translucent paper bonded by durable translucent adhesive into a sturdy cohesive unit. The light from this lamp infuses the room with a unique calming blue-green glow reminiscent of the kelp forests of Monterrey Bay. You will not be disappointed with this beautiful light sculpture.
