Changing Direct Inquiries to Private Projects: January 16th

Why are we making this change?

In short, to grow our business while helping you grow yours. We believe that we can grow CustomMade to be the largest online marketplace for anything custom. But to do so, we need to align our interests with all of yours. We have a monitor in our office of all of the transactions going through our site, and driving you business is our entire focus.

What are the specific changes we are making?

As of January 16th, all Direct Inquiries, as well as posts to the Job Board will be charged a 10% service and co-marketing fee. This means any project you win as a result of being on CustomMade.com will result in this fee. Think of it like a commission. We only get paid once you get paid.

How does this impact your business?

To use the new platform on CustomMade, you will need to respond to consumers through our messaging platform, and once you have a final price, create a project proposal for the consumer to accept. We already have hundreds of people using this platform to get in touch with Project/Job Board posters, and it is working. We are driving a tremendous amount of business, and plan to spend even more in the upcoming months on marketing, PR, and business development. Remember, we only get paid when you get paid, so our incentive is to find you the best customers who are easiest to close.

Drive more business to you!

We’ve shifted the experience from “Contact this maker” to “Start a project with this maker”, which will effectively eliminate the casual price-inquirers and tire kickers. You will receive communication from clients ready to work with you. You can also initiate Creation Stories for all of the jobs that you win, building exposure for you and your work. And lastly, you’ll be able to garner positive ratings which will also drive more business to you.

How to succeed

Very Easy!

Success on our website is actually very easy. Here are things you can do that we have seen work:

  1. Make sure you keep all communications with the client on our platform
  2. When you have finalized a price, create a proposal using our wizard
  3. Add the commission to your sales price, we are seeing that consumers are not upset about the additional charge for CustomMade
  4. Do great work, make a creation story, and ask the consumer for a review
