This Qing Dynasty inspired desk was a total cooperative endeavor between the artist and the customer, taking nearly two (2) years to complete and deliver. Both the artist and the customer met at the lumber yard to inspect and select the right lumber.

The basic carcass of the Qing Dynasty desk … is constructed of genuine mahogany, while the top and all drawer fronts are made of Leopardwood. Additionally, as the customer wanted a truly unique desk, the artist constructed each of the six (6) drawers out of a different species of American hardwood, i.e., red oak, white oak, maple, walnut, cherry, and hickory.

Special crane handles (the crane being a noted Chinese symbol for health & happiness) was selected by the customer and installed on the desk drawer fronts. Solid brass inserts set off the base/feet of the Qing Dynasty desk.

Additionally, seven (7) separate and unique Chinese characters were carved into the desk panels and the center drawer front. All of the Chinese characters have special meaning to the customer, and this will be explained when the customer passes the desk on to his son, and in turn, to his granddaughter. Finally, at the request of the customer, the artist carved and colored the customer's signature into the desk, with the stipulation that the customer's son and granddaughter would also have their signatures carved into the desk.

The entire desk is finished with a hand-rubbed oil/polyurethane mixture and buffed to a low level sheen with liquid wax.

This Qing Dynasty desk is used at the customer's home for mainly business purposes.

The style of the desk relies heavily on Qing Dynasty art and style; before they were carved into the desk, each of the seven (7) Chinese characters was verified and authenticated by a friend of the customer fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
