Queen Size Bed
CustomMade by Tom Mcfadden
Only the head board and foot board of the bed are in this photo. It comes with walnut side rails and maple slats to hold up the mattress and box spring. All of the walnut feet are different, as are all of the maple post tops.
A maple tenon connects the leg parts together as well as passing
… through the top rail. The top rail is laminated.
The curly cherry is from Horizon Hardwoods in Pennsylvania, the walnut is from a tree that grew in Ukiah, CA., and the hard maple is from a sawmill in Ohio.
The curved top rails are laminated from sequentially sawn one eighth thick strips. I roll the glue on with a four inch wide paint roller and clamp the strips together in a mold made from plywood. There is a yellow glue called Titebond Extend which has an "open" time long enough to permit this kind of thing.
Both sides of the head board and foot board are curly cherry and both sides are finished. This bed could stand alone in the center of a room.
