Our interpretation of the Savonarola Chair is true to it's original design with 16 serpentine, cross-strut legs, hand cut from solid African mahogany. The backrest is hand carved in a traditional medieval motif. The chair is finished with multiple layers of hand rubbed Danish oil to bring out the … natural beauty of the mahogany wood. This chair is also known as the "X Chair", "Scissor Chair" or "Dante Chair". It became very popular in medieval Europe and was used by authority figures such as kings and high ranking church officials. We offer a base version of the chair (without hand-carved backrest), as well as more decorative versions with hand carvings and/or inlay. Prices vary.
