Schroeder House Boxproduced for a client of Jay Rogers Unique Boxes

About this item

Approximately $2,400

This box is an abstraction of an already abstract house design, the famous Schroeder House by Gerrit Rietveld, built in 1923, in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Though Rietveld uses lots of glass and all three primary colors for accent, I have chosen to retain only the red post of the façade and to suggest the glass with black dyed Costello wood.
The roof lifts off to uncover the first compartment, which is an inner tray that lifts out, revealing the open structure of the building. Compartments are lined with silver silk.
