Shaker-Style Hancock Bench
CustomMade by Aaron Chapman
These pine benches are based on measured museum pieces that would have been found in the Shaker community of Hancock, Mass around 1830.
I have made these in 3 and 4 foot lengths, but other lengths are also possible.
The curved support pieces are not only attractive, but are slotted into the
… legs, giving this lightweight bench plenty of strength.
The seat is held in place with a glue joint groove that the leg fits into across the width of the bench, but eight matching wood-plugged screws were used to hold everything together.
Other wood species could be used.
