This sleigh bed is shown in King size but could be built as a queen or California king. The headboard frame is built from wide 2" thick mahogany using mortise and tenon construction. The veneers for the headboard were made at my shop and are a full one sixteenth of an inch thick. The back of the … headboard is finished as well allowing placement in the middle of a large room if desired. The side rails start from a single board 14 inches wide by two inches thick and are mortised and tenoned into the head and footboards. They are then drawn tight with heavy bed bolts like on traditional beds. The included slat system provides excellent support for the mattress, eliminating the need for a box spring. The finish is shellac. This particular bed was finished very dark to suit my clients taste, many other finishes are available.
