I had this set of Brazilian Rosewood that had a bit of sapwood on both the sides and the back. I struggled for quite a while trying to figure out how to have my typical back strip down the center of the back while keeping the sapwood spot that made the set so unique. One day, as I was pondering … this, a "friend of the shop" said "don't put in a back strip"! It was such a simple solution that I hadn't even thought of! I was able to keep the sapwood on the sides and back about the same size. I mated the Rosewood with a perfect European Spruce top. This guitar is on the concert stage all the time. I and the owner couldn't be happier with the way it sounds AND the way it looks!
