Toy Sword And Shield
Philosophically, I wanted a set that didn't insult the kid's imagination with too much detail or painting or ornament, but also evoked the real thing in look, weight, and feel. Each is truly handmade- individually created, shaped and contoured by what looks and feels right rather than measurements. So there are sanding marks, wavy lines, and dings, but that only adds to the genuine feel. This is solid work, built to last generations- the sword and shield I would have loved to treasure when I was a kid.
Sword is 20.5" long, 1.25" thick, and 3.5" at its widest. Made from a single piece of white oak. Turned handle, shaped blade with no true edges or points. Finished simply with paste wax.
Shield is 14" long, 1" thick, and 9" at its widest. Made from solid white oak with contoured face and eased edges, and finished with paste wax. Straps of leather with brass button detailing.
