Train Bed

CustomMade by Chris Davis

This is a train bed that was completed in August 2012. It is on of several that train bed that we have built. Each time we change it either to make it better and/or to personalize it to the child.

This one was for Nixon so we put his name on the front of the train. We also put "Nixon Express" on the headboard, which is something new that we did.

Some other features on this one is the working night light on the front. It is controlled by a 3 stage touch sensor mounted on the bed side of the front cap.

  • Working on the front cap. Made a template for the arch and circle, then used the template to create two identical pieces. To make the front cap thicker we spaced them out with some poplar for framing.

The next step will be to wrap it with some bending plywood.

  • Just need some quick input from you. What position would you like the light. Normally we put it in the center of the "Light Panel", but I have put it down low. Attached are pictures of both. Example of light down low on the panel

  • The roof of the train was framed out in Poplar. Cut the shape, framed it out, and covered it with bending plywood. We will still need to fill the pores with a mud like filler to achieve a smooth finish.

The sides were cut using straight edges and templates to achieve straight and clean cuts. We will sand them up and add some cleats and we should be finished with the side.

Coming up... Covering the front cap with bending plywood.

  • Train bed is finished. It turned out great! We did a little extra graphic work on the headboard. The ladder can be mounted on either side and the light's touch dimmer is located under the smoke stack accessed from the inside.

We will get to packed up and shipped tomorrow. Assemble will go easy on your end with the quick connect corner brackets.

Attached are some of the pictures. View of the headboard and top. Little extra graphic work on the headboard.
