Upholstered Victorian Settee Upholstered In Designers Guild Embroidered Silk And Cut Velvets, In Magenta, Pumpkin And Plum
CustomMade by Jane Hall
This piece has an interesting story. I had a call from a woman who had an offer for me. She wanted to do a trade. Would I do a design consultation in exchange for a settee she had sitting in her basement? There had been an article in our large daily paper ,The Toronto Star, about what I was doing
… with furniture, and she thought I might be the perfect person to have it. Of course, I jumped at the chance. It was a 1880's Victorian piece, and when I got it it had been stripped, and was ready to be transformed.
It was hand painted in magenta, and then distressed in a copper. I used 6 different Tricia Guild fabric's, imported from England that sell from 400-550.00 a yard. the textures are, cut velvets, embroidered silks, and woven damask silks. The piece has a beautiful and commanding rose in the center and the frame has detailed engraved details.
My style is very much influenced by the historical design and global cultures, and I would call define it as Bohemian Chic.
I believe in the producing pieces that are as unique as the individual who is purchasing them. I also believe and in the principals of ethical purchasing, and designing and producing products that promote sustainability, and our local artistic community and craftsman who execute my designs.
