This eye-catching Walnut burl slab was found in the reduced price bin at a local lumberyard. I rescued it and was very pleased to see that all the work and effort it took to clean it up was worth it! Accentuated with a golden OM symbol and rays, it seems to radiate power and light wherever it is.
This Wall Altar / Wall Art piece is part of a series that I continue to work on and improve. They are inspired by my love for spirituality and nature. I love to work with both wood and stone, making it a joy to be able to combine them in this way.
Cut from local woods, this piece is made with a combination of hand tools and the latest CNC equipment. The shape is created by hand or with an automated router, depending on the design. All the engravings are setup and completed on a laser engraver.
Some pieces are left as engraved, but most are then painted to highlight and emphasize the engraved designs. This makes the designs really stand out. All the pieces are then selaed with several coats of clear lacquer.
The last step is to pair the individual pieces with just the right piece of stone. I search the local stone yards for interesting, colorful and unique stone varieties. The larger slabs are then chiseled and cut to their final shape and size, which is determined by the wood forms that they are to be paired with.
