The subtle details, clean lines, asymmetry and simple joinery of this side table were influenced by Japanese design principles and aesthetics. The table is made from a reclaimed ash restaurant tabletop, white oak and cherry. To create the thin edge profile of the tabletop the underside was tapered … in four directions while leaving enough material to connect the top to the base with through mortise and tenon joinery. The cantilever of the top is stabilized by a large cherry wedge inserted through the base. The solid white oak base has an ebonized finish while the rest of the table is finished with oil and wax.
