Sack Back Windsor chairs are made the same way as chairs were made 200 years ago. All the work is done by hand to shape each piece of the chair. The Bow and the Rest are steam bent into the shape required. Some of the tools used on this piece include an Adz, spoke shave, inshave, travisher and draw knife, spoon bits and various planes. Windsor chairs were typically finished in milk paint as shown in this photo. These chairs are also made with hardwoods and finished naturally to display the wood grains.
