Winter Wedding Wrap

I designed and created a layered winter fingertip length cape with a peter pan collar and a white frog closure. The main cape is crushed velvet with two layers of organza. All layers have a wire hem to make them scallop. All edges were finished or hemmed.

  • OK, here are some images showing wire in all three hems including the velvet. This is 14 lb wire, but I could put heavier wire in if you like. The only change I had to make was that there won't be a lining because it disturbs the flow of the velvet. This isn't a problem because I plan to reinforce or enclose all the edges. Let me know if the 14 lb wire is ok or not, then I'll make the collar. front

  • OK, here are all the layers together with the wire in them and the collar (curled edge). I sewed the front edges of the 2 organza layers together so they don't flip out. Let me know if the "all layers" image is ok. If not, I could sew the organza layers to the velvet (at the front seam only) which would make it lay a bit more flat. I could also sew a binding on the front edge (this would help the wire to stay in too). I'll be able to get the frog/closure on Friday. PS I replaced the 14 lb. wire with 50 lb wire. front opening seams
