This is real nice (reclaimed) American chestnut, aka wormy chestnut. The top is 1 1/8" thick the stabilizer rails at the bottom are 7/8" thick. This particular bench was made to sit under a coat rack mirror made from the same wood. These pictures show the natural look of wood before the finish is applied.
