One of the many differences between Production Made Kitchens and Custom Made Kitchens produced in small shops by individual makers is the attention to color and grain selection and matching. This Yellow Birch Kitchen uses a method of re-sawing and book-matching the grain for the flat panels in the doors. Book-matching not only conceals glue line but provides a very uniform color and grain match.
Other techniques used in my Custom Kitchens involve cutting consecutive drawer fronts out of one board so the grain runs from one drawer to the next. This is not always immediately obvious to the untrained design eye but its well worth the effort anyway. One of those things the maker does for his own satisfaction and if the customer or others notice that great.
