This ring features a rich, red 6mm round ruby or half carat diamond set in a 22K gold granulated bezel. The band is a twisted wire with round wires on each side set on a 1mm thick inner band.
What makes this ring special is it has been completely hand fabricated. First, I alloy the gold. This means that pure 24k gold is mixed with 2 parts of silver and copper (22k). After the gold is mixed I use a rolling mill to make sheet and wire for the bezel setting and the band.
Granules are made by hand. This can take several days. The granules are teeny, tiny gold balls used for decoration. They are placed on the piece with a tiny brush and then the piece is heated almost to the melting point. At that point the granules fuse and become one with the piece. No solder can be used in this type of granulation. It's a technique that goes back to ancient times and if you look at museum collections of ancient jewelry you will see it there.
After the bezel is granulated it is fit to the actual gemstone. A ring band is fabricated - another process that can take several days.
If you are looking for a very unique engagement ring, this can be made with a diamond (yours or I can provide one according to your specifications) with a wedding ring to match. Almost any quality or shape gemstone will work for this design. Shown also with hammered 22k wedding ring with flush set diamonds.
