Abstract Faceted Wood And Steel Sculpture

I carved a 42" diameter maple log into a bone shaped boat, or a boat shaped bone a few years ago. The cut offs from my chain saw were all beautiful in their own right.

I was familiar with the concept of ancient bi disc forms of Asia, and was really drawn to how some were mounted on metal stands to display value. I incorporated this idea of the stand into these sculptures. Ironically, the metal post used in this sculpture is from reclaimed political sign holders.

This wooden sculpture is made from a spalted maple cut off from the Dry Bones | Bone Boat sculpture that I have sculpted and refined into the final form. There is a piece of copper tube that is inlayed in the back of this piece and the metal stand inserts into the copper. This allows the sculpture to be able to be removed for the viewer to hold.

The base is made from very dense and beautiful imported cocobolo wood.

This piece is available for immediate purchase, or I can custom make a sculpture for you. This could be out of wood, metal, stone, acrylic, resin, fur, or any number of other materials.

Thank you for looking at my work!
