The initial idea for this piece came from the customer, she wanted to give the tub as a gift. Several tubs were made and the blue one was the final delivered piece chosen by the recipient of the gift.
Several tubs were made and two are shown in the picture. Both hold a standard bar of soap. They were made from high fire stone ware clay to be approximately to scale of a real antique bathtub. First the walls were thrown on the wheel as a bottomless pot and then cut and shaped to ovals on a thick slab.
The slab was then trimmed to be rounded and the handles and feet were hand molded and attached. The final piece was shipped with a bar of locally made soap.
