This detailed and monumental Bas-Relief entitled, "Atlanta Reborn" was meticulously hand sculpted, carved and painted by Russian Artist Ludmilla Ketchersid (USA) over a several year period and is signed and dated. The copyright retained by Artist. The material used is mainly plaster with an internal wire armature which strengthens the buildings and towers allowing the objects to protude from the flat base plane giving a dimensional effect. The scene was then completed by adding a sepia oil wash (yeilding the effect of an aged photograph) and finished with a satin lacquer for protection. This large artistic relief sculpture approximately measures 41-7/8" (3.5') high x 90" (7.5') wide while the thick wooden frame (accented with real gold leaf) brings the total size to an even 4 feet high x 8 feet wide. Atlhough the size is quite impressive, this relief sculpture only has a 1 inch depth (sight size) which indicates the complexity and level of difficulty in acheiving this three dimensional view. This completed, framed Bas-Relief weighs approximately 80 pounds. When shipped it will include a larger, metal bolted, wooden frame with metal handles encasing the relief for protection and easier transporation (approx. weight with crate is 160 pounds).

The relief sculpture depicts a view of Atlanta, circa winter 1895, after the Reconstruction era. This artistic work is based upon a period photograph and rendered realistically in detail. This large sculptural panel shows the emerging city with new buildings and the Capitol, side by side with the few remaining original structures left after the Civil War. While the soft clouds waft above in the southern sky, the new Capitol Building in intricate detail is centered among the few barren trees and older houses. The churches and cathedrals are meticulously carved showcasing their aritechture while the factories billow smoke from their smoke stacks indicating that Atlanta's commerce is on a rebound. In the lower part of the relief there are streets, building roof tops and store fronts with signage while larger buildings and neighborhoods stretch off into the horizon. You can still recognize some of the original buildings today, such as the train station, church, and Capitol from 1895. This artistic rendering depicts the rebuilding of Atlanta after the Civil War in 1895 and truly captures the emotion and spirit of "Atlanta Reborn". (lgk)

This historical piece has been shown in a gallary and has been viewed by professionals and the public alike. In fact, there are professionally printed postcards using this image directly from this art piece and I would be glad to include this postcard with the Bas-Relief. This type of relief sculpture with this theme has not been executed in the past and this view is unique. You must see this dimensional sculpture in person to get the full effect and scope of the work that it took to complete this relief (the pictures alone can't convey all aspects of the image) !!! This was truly a labor of love for me because I admire Atlanta and the history. This monumental, intricately and meticulously executed Bas-Relief depicts a very important historical event in Atlanta's rebirth and growth as a vibrant city. The sculptural craftmanship and attention to detail of this three diminsional work of art would be a great asset to any public display in commerce/government or would be just the right piece to add to a private collector's portfolio.
