Imagine two brothers, 8 and 10 years of age, both are high energy, competitive. They love sports, snow-boarding in the winter, lacrosse in the spring, baseball in the summer and soccer in the fall. Their parents own a condo in Avon and wanted to provide the boys with a place to set up their traveling video gaming and DVD collection in their small bedroom. The only usable space was a corner off to the dead side of their bedroom door. The interior designer came to us with a specific style of furniture that she had already ordered. However, she needed a custom corner unit to meet the brothers' needs and fit in that corner. She brought us photos, measurements and a plan view of the room. We designed this piece to accommodate their needs perfectly. Her client loved the solution we presented. It is stained, glazed and finished with low VOC colorants and catalyzed lacquer.
It is kid proof….if anything is kid proof!
The corner unit is sturdy with adjustable shelves above and below, with wire and heat management and access built in. We built and finished it to exactly match the existing pieces using applied moldings and textured flat panel doors with raised pins on the door joints. This piece was built before flat screen TV's and monitors had taken over the market. It was built with a TV/ monitor pull out in the upper cabinet and had a keypad pull out in the lower cabinet. Remarkably versatile, this kind of design could bring to life a dead use corner in any room.
