"Bear In Mind" - Fused Glass Nightlight

Remember those "old style" teddy bears that had moveable arms and legs that were held onto the body by buttons?

That was the inspiration for this exquisite night light, which challenged me in so many ways. I don't know what I was thinking when I was making this - I made it so detailed and complicated, but the resulting piece is spectacular.

One of the most demanding aspects was the inlaying of the cream colored "tummy" into the body. After cutting a base of clear glass I carefully cut & shaped the form of a yellow bear to match exactly. Then I drilled a hole in the middle of the yellow glass to allow for a saw blade so that I could do an "inside cut". This interior cut had to be shaped with a grinder so that it EXACTLY matched the cream piece of glass to be inlaid.

The bear sits contentedly amid a colorful flower garden wearing an expression of "expectation"...what are we going to do next?
