This project is a solution to an odd, but typical second floor space in an older Victorian home where the roof line prevented the use of conventional bedroom furniture, consequently not being able to utilize the space efficiently.
The result of this design gives the impression that these cabinets where always part of the home. Specifically, the use of wainscoting, a material typically found in turn-of-the-century homes. Other features include a mattress height open compartment for the users personal items, hidden from view but easily accessible, a larger cabinet with adjustable shelves for added storage and the use of bifold doors, more convenient for the user while minimizing interference within the bedside area.
These units are made from solid poplar and poplar ply; painted using the color chosen by the homeowners and the choice of hardware typical to the era of the home.
