"Big House" is an historic and architecturally significant house located on Griswold Point at the mouth of the Connecticut River in Old Lyme, CT. It was built in the 1840's and has remained in the Griswold family since it was built. To me, it represents an aspect of American culture which is declining and disappearing. I think the image is contemporary but also alludes to early American landscapes because of its simplicity and feeling of being "self taught". I'm hoping the various elements of sunset, evening stars, widow's walk, bare trees, and long cast shadows add to the mood and symbolism intended. A perfect wall piece for either a contemporary or traditional setting, both residential or commercial.
