This Birch Entertainment center was built with economy in mind. Our clients are retired and had just moved into this Palm Bay Florida condo. Their budget was small but the cabinetry is big. We saved some money by using Birch instead of Cherry and by using applied moulding on the doors and drawer fronts we really brought out the elegance of this cabinet. We also carried the face frames down to the floor and did not add a base trim. These cost saving measures did not detract from the beauty of the cabinetry and allowed my clients to get the storage they needed as well as the design they were looking for. The project came out great and the red chestnut stain really looks good on the birch. The cabinetry contained all the audio/ video equipment including a pullout shelf for the turntable. The TV fits well and is installed on the original base saving more money by not needing a mounting bracket. The open book cases were large enough to meet the needs of the client's current collection with a little room to spare, and the lighted display area fit the family treasures our client loved to show off. The deep wide drawers on each side of the cabinetry were more than enough to house their CD and DVD collection and give some room to store other items as needed. In this economy we must be able to cut cost, but to sacrifice good construction methods and longevity is not a cost savings but a detriment to the clients. This project shows that you can save money without sacrificing quality, fit or finish.
