I herewith present to you: The Black Industrial Goth Lockable Steampunk Leather Journal.
This book is made using a single piece of tough black vegetable-tanned cowhide. The padlock isn't one of those fakey little things that you can open with a toothpick, but a small Master padlock, made for securing suitcases and such. The metal plates are thin aluminum sheet metal, folded double and riveted in place. The book's pages are stitched to four thinner leather strips, which are riveted to the front and back covers. The thread is four-ply waxed Irish linen thread.
This book doesn't just look tough, it is tough.

THREAD: Waxed linen thread.

SHEET METAL: Aluminum flashing.
RIVETS: Leather rivets.
HASP: Zinc-plated small Weatherguard padlock hasp.
CLOSURE: small Master padlock, supplied with key.
