The board, wooden chess pieces, and hand-carved tweezers for moving them can be stored in a turned wooden lidded vessel from 6” to 10” in diameter and from 6” to 12” in height. The vessel and pieces shown here were made from holly, pink ivory wood, purpleheart, ebony, and boxwood.

He explains Many years ago I was challenged to make a miniature turning for an exhibition. The maximum size was 6” x 6” x 6”. I decided to make a miniature chess set fitted within a lidded vessel of that size, and you see the result here. Each set I make differs from all others in vessel design, lamination patterns, storage area for the chessmen, and wood combination.
