This duiker originally belonged to a very prolific home naturalist/taxidermist. The animal is a full grown adult that died of natural causes on an exotic game farm, and was donated to him by the management. It was one of the many unfinished projects he left behind when he passed away. I was lucky enough to be contacted by his family, who asked if I would be interested in taking on some of these projects as they were simply collecting dust in storage. When I got this precious creature, he seemed a bit unloved and forgotten, just waiting to see better days. There was damage to the skin, eyes, and form, that needed to be repaired by taking the mount apart completely, re-treating and re-forming the hide, making a totally new form, and re-setting the eyes, nose, and ears. What began as a handsome little fellow giving up in the midst of forgotten decay became a beautiful fantasy creature, in the midst of re-blossoming. It was a process full of tears and laughter. Handmade cold porcelain flowers with brightly colored enamel adorn the ears and face, along with a few subtly translucent holographic Swarovski stones. Comes ready for wall mounting.
