I really enjoy watching low budget Sci-Fi movies from the 1950's. They are a lot of fun to watch. I especially like how they take a simple idea; usually a bunch of guys going into outer space, getting into trouble, and then somehow getting out of trouble. Not too complicated. I also like how the movie makers saw space flight. The space ships were always very roomy. And I always thought the space ships had a pleasing shape. That gave me an idea. So, I created a table lamp featuring a space rocket shape. But I also wanted to use bright colors so the lamp would liven up a room. After a bit of design time and color testing, I created the lamp you see here.
The body of the lamp linden finished with automotive coatings. The fins are hand carved maple stained to allow the grain of the wood to show. The hand-crafted shade is covered in brilliant red silk.
