Created from ancient oak wood from the bogs of Ireland. Thousands of years ago Ireland was covered by shallow lakes left behind by the melting glaciers. Over time these shallow lakes gradually filled with peat, which is the soil made up of the partially decomposed remains of dead plants. Oak trees grew around the edges of the bogs and were drowned as the bogs expanded out of their basins causing them to fall into the bogs. The submersion of the oak trees for thousands of years stained the wood leaving a dark rich colored wood which is now harvested and used to produce works of art. The darker color signifies an older piece of wood.
The pen in this set was crafted from bog oak ranging in age from 4500 to 6000 year old bog oak. The box was crafted from bog oak approximately 2000 years old with a maple lid. The inside bottom of the box is lined with hunter green suede to protect the pen while not being used. The pen components are made in the U.S. and are solid stainless steel polished to a brilliant finish. The writing mechanism is a German made Schmidt 5888 rollerball, one of the smoothest writing refills in the pen industry. Hold a piece of ancient history in your hands.
