Sculpture | Bottle-Cap Medallions

I made these bottle-cap medallions to adorn the upper-cabinet doors in our cabin's kitchen. Bottle caps are a medium with a history in American vernacular art and architecture. Their bright colors and shiny surface make them like beadwork. The caps circles tile in a hexagonal pattern. I arranged the colors to make chevrons on a diamond form. I glue the caps onto a wooden substrate cut to the shape of the assembled caps. The medallion is then easily attached to the cabinet doors.
