The shelves for this in-law kitchenette were constructed from reclaimed Douglas fir joists from the house that previously stood on the property. Finished with Bona Naturale matte finish.

Milling the reclaimed Douglas fir was very labor intensive and added a lot of cost to the project. The rich golden tones, tight grain of the old growth and the occasional nail hole added a lot of character, making the cost worthwhile for this homeowner. However this project could be completed with new materials for less than half the cost
