There's a poem about the rider's horse engraved on the front of the base of the sculpture.
The story told by this piece is not about the hunt or the buffalo but about the relationship between the man and his pony. The horse, beloved by the rider, is going to suffer a terrible fate by the way the buffalo is approaching them. It's the story of a man's love and appreciation for his pony.
This is one of Matt's early pieces, after some told him a young artist should not try to sculpt something so ambitious. To this day, it is one of his most accomplished and complimented pieces.
LImited edition of 25. Three artist proofs available.
Dimensions: Base 28" x 21", Oblong, 19" high x 13" wide
The base in the photograph is covered in leather and beadwork. The base can also be black walnut or granite, depending on the customer's preferences and budget.
The piece can be sculpted larger if interested in something bigger and you have a larger budget. The image is powerful and can become the central piece of a whole room.
A sculpture like this is shipped in a custom-made crate via UPS and insured. Shipping costs are determined at the time of negotiations depending on location, etc.
